CARBONDALE, IL — The books are being traded for boxing gloves this weekend as two Southern Illinois University students prepare for the biggest amateur bouts of their careers. This Sunday, March 22nd, Jacob Crawford and Tyson Beck will step into the ring at the St. Louis Golden Gloves Finals, looking to bring championship hardware back to Carbondale.
Representing Pharaoh Boxing and the So ILL Syndicate Gym, Crawford and Beck have balanced the heavy demands of college academics with the grueling discipline of a fight camp. Now, that dedication will be put to the ultimate test.
Crawford will be competing in the highly competitive Super Welterweight division at 154 pounds. Known for his conditioning and grit, he’ll be looking to impose his will under the bright lights. Joining him on the card is the heavy-hitting Tyson Beck, who will be tipping the scales in the Heavyweight division at 198 pounds. Together, they represent a resurgence of the fighting spirit in Southern Illinois.
The team isn’t making the trek to Missouri alone. Pharaoh Boxing and Syndicate Gym are calling on the local community to form a caravan to support their hometown fighters. The team will be departing from Carbondale at 10:00 AM on Sunday, and they welcome any fans, friends, and gym members to join the convoy in their own vehicles.
The St. Louis Golden Gloves Finals will take place at the Boys and Girls Club of St. Charles, located at 1211 Lindenwood Avenue in St. Charles, Missouri. Doors will open to the public at 2:00 PM, with the first bell scheduled to ring at 3:00 PM. Entry to the event is $30 at the door.
